John Major Jenkins & the December 2012 Galactic Alignment

John Major Jenkins, the most credible of all the Mayan researchers, is responsible for creating awareness of the galactic alignment and for providing information on why the December 21, 2012 date is important. He also discovered the true day count of the Mayan calendar amongst the many versions that are being used.
Jenkins research shows the Maya knew about an alignment of the sun with the center of the Milky Way that happens only once every 26,000 years. They depicted this information in the architecture of their buildings, specifically at Izapa. After discovering the galactic alignment, Jenkins was able to use this information as a springboard for his other discoveries – the correct day count and the correct end date of the Mayan calendar.
The Galactic Alignment The alignment which occurs in the years around 2012 is often referred to as “galactic alignment 2012” causing people to believe that on one specific day, December 21, 2012 the sun aligns with the center of the Milky Way, finishes the alignment and moves on. This is misleading as the alignment does not just happen on one day, but over a period of years. Because the disk of the sun is about ½ inch wide, it takes a period of 36 years for the alignment to complete its transit across this point. According to the calculations of Astronomer Jean Meeus, the alignment began around 1980, exacted in 1998 and will end around 2016. So we are now in the zone of time when the alignment is occurring. This supports my belief that the shift is happening right now and occurs over a zone of time rather than just on December 21, 2012.
So then we must ask, “What is the meaning that the sun and the center of the galaxy are aligned?” I believe that due to higher vibratonal energies flowing from the center of the galaxy, a consciousness shift is being triggered. If the Universe is an alive, sentient being then an alignment with the center of our galaxy would put us in sync with the aliveness emanating from it.
The value of knowing about this zone of alignment helps you understand these times of unprecedented change and also attune to the awakening shift that is birthing a new species of human and a New Earth.
December 21, 2012 So if the alignment is happening right now, then what is December 21, 2012 about? Again, Jenkins has given us some clues. The importance of this date relates to the ending of the Mayan calendar. The calendar shows how we move through large cycles of time known as world ages. Carl Calleman has expanded on the idea of World Ages and I will cover that in my next post. According to Mayan myth, endings of world ages always relate to transformation and renewal. The December 21 date is the end date of the Mayan Long Count Calendar as shown by astronomical alignments in Mayan architecture and by the symbolism on their stone monuments.
There has been a lot of controversy around the correct ending date. According to the huge amount of research done by Jenkins, the winter solstice in 2012 is indicated by the Mayans. This is shown especially by the astronomical architecture at Izapa. There is also a stone monument at Tortuguero with an inscription that points to December 21, 2012. So not only are we living in the 36 year period of the galactic alignment but also in the ending days of the Mayan Long Count Calendar- two factors that support an awakening shift.
Quiche Maya Day Count After discovering the correct end date of the Mayan calendar, Jenkins was then able to discover which of the many day counts being used was the correct one. The Spanish conquerors burned most of the books that recorded this information, then persecuted the Mayan daykeepers, so the whole process went underground. Since the Mayan tribes were living in isolated mountainous areas with no contact through the years, days were dropped and the calendars from different groups of Mayans no longer matched.
Jenkins’s research indicates that the Quiche Maya have the most accurate accounting. There are two predominate counts being used. One is from the Yucatec and the other from the Quiche Maya. If you are interested in working with the calendars, both can be downloaded from the website of Aluna Joy.

I think your experience of having one foot in the old world and one in the new is happening to many now. It causes a feeling of confusion and of being out of sync, yet there is a part of you that sensed something deeper was going on. When the ah-ha came, there was relief and a feeling of rebirth. I love checking into all the different styles of Dec. 21,2012 mayan prophecy, I consider one redeeming idea that has come of all of this, even if nothing materializes is that it has opened our minds to the possibility that we may not be here forever and that we need to treasure the lifespan we have.

Thanks for your work on explaining the astronomy of 2012. It is soooo confusing. After studying the work of the three main scholars – Arguelles, Callman and Jenkins – I decided that the best I could do was simply honor what was outstanding about each man’s work as there seems to be no consensus.

Actually, the astronomy of 2012 isn’t confusing; it just takes some effort, which my videos reduce to about 1 hour. Without making that effort, there’s no basis for deciding what is, and isn’t, outstanding about the different 2012 figures’ work. What’s made 2012 astronomy confusing is the incoherence and misleading statements of prominent 2012 figures.
I would ask you to dig into the videos a bit. One of the most puzzling things to me about the 2012 movement is that people will spend years studying with shamans, or travel to expensive 2012 conferences, but won’t spend a few hours learning the minimal astronomy needed to make up their own minds about the alignments.
Okay, Jim, I will dig into your video’s and see if they give me clarity after I have looked at them. I can definitely tell that these are special times we are living in just by looking at my life and the lives of my clients. However, pinning anything to a specific date has escaped me as galaxies don’t turn on a dime and alignments are going to take years to happen. I’ll be interested to see how you have sorted that all out. Reba
I hope that the energy flowing from the Galactic Center will enable the New Human species to post information like the following, rather than suppress it. After all, Jenkins himself wants it known, since he published the greater part of it not only on his website, but in his book “The 2012 Story”.

There are many “New Consciousness” web sites that seem to operate according to the principle that, “We embrace diversity, as long as it’s the right kind of diversity”. I hope this is not one of those sites, and you’ll post the above so your subscribers will be aware of it. If people can’t be honest about these things, then there’s no reason to believe that the New Earth will be any better than the present one.

Allthough I don’t agree with your take on John Major Jenkins, thank you for your input and for offering another viewpoint. I believe that with all things, it is up to each person to make up their own mind, to use discernment, and follow their hearts. So I am including your comment so people with questions can look at a number of viewpoints and make up their own minds.
To me 2012 is not a hoax but simply a shift in vibration meant to bring the earth and all people back to harmony and peace. I also am concerned about scare tactics used by some in this field and I want to honor the work you are doing to bring groundedness and calmness to people who are very frightened.
